In
2003 Lords House Farm was successful in bidding for
a 2 year grant from the European Social Fund (ESF)
and was then able to develop a small garden centre
on site producing plants, shrubs, cut flowers,
hanging baskets and planters for sale to visitors
and the public. This has been further supported by a
sustainability grant from the North West Development
Agency awarded to the Grassroots project in 2004.
We are now working towards developing the garden
centre into a sustainable social enterprise and
using this to support our commitment to employing
disabled people.
The
majority of the produce is home grown and this is
done by both our horticulture students on further
education courses in partnership with Accrington and
and Rossendale College, and our keen ‘Grass Roots’
volunteer horticulturists – most of whom face some
form of disadvantage or disability. Visitors to the
site are welcome to purchase the plants and flowers
as produced by the Garden Centre, at any time during
Lords House Farm's opening hours. All plants,
flowers and crafts are competitively priced, and
sales help support the work of the charity.
