Alpaca called Surfinia
Surfinia is a delightful alpaca and lives with her friend Fernando as well as our 11 llamas. She is a lovely chestnut colour and has the most adorable eyes with eyelashes to die for! She is very friendly and always interested in who has come to say hello and loves to give kisses.
Crackerjaque Arab X called Crackerjaque
Crackerjaque has been at the farm for all of his life and is very clever – he can jump and has won prizes for being the best. He has lots of friends here and is always keen to show the others just how it is done. His favourite pastime is to gallop across the fields with the wind in his hair – and he is very fast!
Donkey called Bart
Bart is a very cute and adorable Miniature Donkey with a very cheeky face! He lives with our other full size donkey, Harriet and enjoys people coming to see him. He likes nothing better than playing out in the field with Harriet and the Reindeers, and looks very cute in his special coat that he has for when it is wet.
Emu called Rod
An unusual character – Rod the emu and his girlfriend are very big attractions here at Lords House Farm – there aren’t many places in Lancashire where emus graze side by side with horses! The resident animals here have grown used to the sight of these long legged birds with comic faces and large eyes with eyelashes to die for. Although they may look quite fearful they are actually very friendly and love to peck at bright, shiny objects. Hide your jewellery ladies!
Exmoor pony called Brambles
Brambles is a special pony as she is an Exmoor which is now a rare breed. She has not been with us very long but she has settled in very well. Her best friend is a Highland pony called Bartie and together they love showing off at the local riding club.
Fallow Deer called Ash
Ash is a male Fallow Deer and lives in a huge paddock with five other Deer friends. He gets to play out all day but loves going to visit the guinea pigs and the parrots (he secretly steals the parrots food, hee hee!). He was born at the Welsh Mountain Zoo in North Wales on the 19th June 2003, but unfortunately his mummy couldn’t keep him because he was a boy deer and I would cause trouble when he grew up by fighting with his dad. His favourite time is when the children go and visit him and take him peanuts.
Goat called Rosemary
Basil and Rosemary, the pygmy goats. were bred at Lords House Farm and live with their friend, Chanel, in the paddock next to the emu. They leap about like spring lambs doing acrobatics and love to jump on top of their big toys to play king of the castle!
Highland Pony called Bartie
Bartie is a handsome chap who loves to show off for an audience. He is from Scotland and loves galloping about in the fields with his friend Brambles. All the children love to ride him (and a few adults too!) as he is so laid back and cool.
Llama called Chico
Chico arrived as a big surprise in 2005 and gets lots of attention. He is quite a character and always wants to get in on the act. Out in the field with the herd cheeky Chico runs in and out between the ‘grown ups’ and makes them dizzy. He really likes playing with the reindeer and has races with them, which he always wins!
Alison The Owl Owl called Alison
Alison is a large eagle owl. The largest of all our owls, she is fairly quiet except at feed times when she calls loudly till she is fed. She has huge orange eyes and is now three years old. She is hand tame and will fly to the glove to retrieve her food from her handler.
Python called Monty
Monty Python is only two years old but is already about 12 feet long. She lives in a large glass tank that is specially heated for her, because as she is cold blooded, she needs extra heat to keep her body warm. Her relatives in the wild live in North and Central America where it is much warmer, and they spend most of their time sunbathing. Monty loves being a snake – her life involves sunbathing, eating, sunbathing and eating. She even gets lots of cuddles from her keepers and from all the other boys and girls that come to see her at Lords House Farm.
Reindeer called Thunder
Thunder is a real reindeer and lives at Lords House Farm with his brother Lightning, although his best friend is actually a llama called Bilby. Thunder has some magnificent horns and has to be careful he doesn’t knock into the other animals with them although he has a good game he plays with his brother – locking horns.
Sheep called Shawn
Shawn is a very large, friendly sheep who was bottle fed and hand reared at Lords House Farm from 2 days old as he was orphaned. He has a personality crisis as he thinks he is a dog and will follow you anywhere! He is the ringleader of all our sheep, which is good and he is so tame he can help our Sheepdog, Skye, round up the sheep!
Shetland pony called Teddy Bear
Teddy bear is a tiny, chestnut Shetland pony that stands about 28” high . His party trick is to dress up at Christmas as the world’s smallest reindeer and accompany Father Christmas on his present giving excursions to schools and town centres. He is now about 9 years old and has an equally tiny friend call Titch who is black and white.
Tortoise called Penelope Pitstop
Penelope is the matriarch of our tortoises here –being approximately 32 years old and about the size of a small dinner plate. She has a huge appetite, chomping her way through tomatoes and greens – her favourite being dandelion leaves. The other smaller tortoises follow her around and cluster around her to sleep.
Wild boar called Gertie
Gertie the wild boar lives with our other pigs but she is definitely the boss. Gertie looks a bit scary but is not at all and loves being stroked and having her back scratched. Her favourite time of the day is when lunch arrives and she gets potatoes and fruit. She also likes to go out for walks with the horses.
